Language and Naming Conventions of the Nations and Races

Language There are often many old languages that are specific to a region and culture that are mainly spoken by that region or culture. Over thousands of years, a merchant's language dubbed Universal has been popularized over the course of centuries mainly by nobility and royalty pushing it toward the middle and lower classes. Aristocrats do speak Universal as well but they also often keep the old tongue for purposes of obscurantism.

Skalovians Native Skalovian names are vaguely Slavic

  • Ex Nikita, Zukhayev, Ukiatev, Kaitov, Gagrin
  • Surnames Kobolds were not allowed surnames under ON. Many adopted them either during the revolution or after. Married couples often give their spouse a name or create a new one if they didn't have one before like Snovi and Zukhayev Goravich
  • Almost all use this except for Dragons to show their foreign invader status whom all have vaguely Nordic or just full-on fantasy names like Hruimdr, Vaulkr, Dalfr, Caepheras, Saromna, Samdr. If a dragon has changed their name to a native one, that is their attempt to distance themselves from Old Night (Period of Scale Prince Rule and the years before the Republic's foundation on 0 PR [Post Revolution]. If a dragon or dragonkin change their name to the old dragon forms then they are trying to associate themselves with the old regime. If they kept their name from ON, they either are attempting to be humble or do not care about the association (like Dalfr the Vengeful).

Wakunansi Gnollish names from Wakunan tend to be made of syllables separated by apostrophes. These are often chained together in two to five syllables for both surnames and given names. An easy way to form one is to use Latin alphabet letters to make names, although these can differ.
