The Tiers

"The Tiers of society:
The rightful chosen and virtuous
Then the vermin to be purged."

The Tiers

The Tiers are an umbrella term for groupings of authoritarian ultranationalistic groups characterized by tribalism, dictatorial leanings, authoritarianism, totalitarianism, a survival-of-the-fittest ideology, and the wish to creating a nationally regimented and militaristic autocracy to ensure stability and order. While they tend to follow similar ideology, not all Tiers are connected nor descend from the first recorded Tier in 73 PR under reverend Rupert Talwell. Tiers can be formed anywhere on Tys and are not limited to one racial grouping. Humans, dragonkin, dwarves, gnolls, urkain, and others races have formed their own versions of the Tiers. There are Tierian activities in Skalovia, Wakunan, Thrake, Shonan, Liresku, Huatec, and Zeth. These groups are often in conflict with each other over conflicts of supremacy but they have allied on occasion with the agreed goal of carving up certain territories with preferred kind cultures.
Tiers
The goal of a Tier cell is to move the nations they inhabit to adhere to the values of Tierish ideology. This can be done gradually through the infiltration of communities, law enforcement, and governments to shift policy and laws to their designs, through accelerationist actions such as causing riots, assassinating political enemies, rebelling against the state, or a combination of the above.
Tierian Members
Successful Tierians do not call themselves Tierians. They take the guise of well-meaning neighbors and concerned citizens that convince others to look at things the way they do through charm, argumentation, or other means. Often, they take up causes that help their Tiered groupings and cause resentment and discontent to foment between other groupings in society.
Types of Tiers
Not all Tiers are religious, race-based, or nationalistic in nature. Different Tiers may focus on one aspect or combine two or more focuses. As said, they can also come into conflict with each other.
Here are some examples of Tiers type groupings:
  • Ultranationalists
  • Kind Purists
  • Theocratic Supremacists
  • Mage Supremacists
  • Ethnonationalists
  • Tierian Equitianists (think real life Strasserites)
  • More
Confusing Tiers
Not all Tiers are Kind Purists and not all Kind Purists are Tiers. There are other groups such as devil cultists who do not get along with most types of Tiers and Tiers are often loathe to associate themselves with criminals.
 Tierian Nations
As of 612 PR after 539 years of work Tierians have not been able to fully take over a nation to the point of calling it Tierian. However, they have greatly influenced nations via infiltration, propaganda, and policy. At the point a nation with military capability is taken over by Tiers is a dark time for the rest of the world.
Tierianism and Equitianism
Tierianism is cited as being a response to Equitianism. Equitianists are often used as a boogeyman for Tierians due to their perceived infringement on the property of the Tiers. They reject the Equitianist notion that Kinds should support each other to maintain an equal social and economic level and maintain egalitarianism amongst all. That goes against the history of all Kinds that shows certain Kinds are superior to others along with preserving parasitic and weak elements of those Kinds. They reject the Equitianist notion of an international class identity because it attacks the bonds and stability of nations.
Tiers in Gameplay
Tiers make for varied antagonists for a PC party. The preference of their higher-ups for subtlety but their followers giving into explicit violent fervour can make them enemies in both quieter investigation-based adventures and louder action-filled romps against easily hatable villains that are satisfying to put down. One example of an adventure that uses this group is a murder mystery set during a government function where the murderer was a tiersman taking care of an ideological enemy. Another could be the investigation of a series of kidnappings that lead into hidden camps of tiersman and hideouts in shrouded forests and ancient sewers and caverns that require the PCs to escape tiersman wishing to keep them from giving away their location or have a personal vendetta against them. In the case of a rebellion or revolution such as the Xatlaxan Summer of Flame in 123 PR, they could serve as either subversive agents working for the established kingdoms to bring down the rebellions from within or as their own combatant faction wishing to carve out a Tierian nation from the ashes of the old kingdoms against materiel democrats, equitianist republicans, opportunist aristocrats, and other forces.  Tierish NPCs shall be statted on the NPC page along with groupings and locations given over time.

Tierian Groups
  • Gnollish Pride Unity Movement Located in Wakunan. Founded in 18 PR by Sha'Zi Wah'Kee'Oh. A Kind Supremacist group of gnolls that argue for the full militarization of the Democratic Equitanist Wakunansi Unity State. Their goal is to take back wealth that is rightfully gnollish stolen by surrounding nations that engaged in raiding, slavery, and economic warfare against the Unity State. They also believe that the gnollish race is the most supreme having survived for millenia in the badlands of Wakunan and then also creating the old united Matriarchy through the wealth gained from tarriffs on the Great Vein trade building great cities and monuments. They wish for the conversion of the Equitianist state to an autocratic one that could expand and take the wealth that is rightfully theirs. They argue for males to return to a second class status against egalitarian policies under the reign of the Ess'Wunn matriarchy in -147 ON that weakened the naturally matriarchal society. They argue for the end of the Ess'Wunn Monastic Institute, calling the monks subversive and turncoats for allowing Equitianist ideals to take hold that would weaken the society to the point of relying on the Dragonkin of Skalovia and the neighboring Kesstians for defense when they should be self-reliant.
  • Skalovian Gorian Revivalists Located in the URES. Founded in 103 PR by Galeg Oletetsin. The Revivalists argue for the supremacy of the old Scale Prince system and uses the hypocrisy of the URES claiming to be an egalitarian state that treats the kinds impartially but was founded by the heir to a scale prince that had to take control of the masses to win the revolution as proof that Equitianist ideology is a scam and that dragons, dragonkin, kobolds, and all other kinds should know their place. They take the name of the old (false) god of dragons and use old Gorian Temple iconography in their literature and propaganda. They to break Equitianist control of the URES which they say weakens the rightful heirs of old Skalovia and place a leader of old Princely blood back on the throne of Letrotsk. They wish to reinstate the rightful tiers of Kinds of the old dragonkin hiearchy.
  • True Sons of the Fellowship Located in Thrake. Founded by Reverend Rupert Talwell in 73 PR. Made during major abolitionist movements that would lead to the Thrakian civil war in 96 PR, Talwell's True Sons was made during a time of economic anxiety for the nation along with a mass embarrassment for capitulating to not only Gnollish demands but Equitianist demands of the Wakunansi Unity State. Stirred by a reverend of the Velassian human pantheon, the movement was made to ensure the continuing prosperity of humankind and a continuation of old Thrakian values in the face of weak-willed Harmonism and dangerous Equitianism. They see themselves as the true descendants of the Fellowship of Persalians. They work by infiltrating the police, military, and government along with spreading propaganda about the dangerous non-human kinds of Thrake. They will fail to stop the full emancipation of Thrakian slaves in 104 PR, but continue to work toward keeping freed slaves beneath the pure and deserving humankind. They also have special hate for the Fallow, seeing their ignored impurities in Thrakian society as the active work of devils influencing Thrakian government (it's not by the way.) Very clerical. In conflict with the New Empire.
  • The New Empire Located in western Marikhoria. Wish to bring back the old Empire of Mara. Less Human Purist than the True Sons, accepting elves, dwarves, and even urkain into their ranks. Horribly sexist and homophobic. Anti-clerical. In conflict with the True Sons.

The Homily of the Tiers caught in 73 PR as transcribed by a member of the Rothko Security Agency of Thrake infiltrating a meeting held by Micha Talwell, Reverend of Liestra and influential member of his community
Reverend Rupert Talwell
"My fellows, we are witness to an everchanging age. Not but four score ago came the scaled with their vanities so swollen they had not contentedness to stay in their icy holds, far away from the sight and prosperity good gods-fearing men, but created fire breathing icons in their image. Nay, discontent in their mastery of destruction of the body came their ultimate blasphemy against the mind and soul. An ideology of terror, let slip from their lips like a whooping plague, to catch upon your young, your wife, your neighbor, your nation! YOUR PROPERTY AND LIVELIHOOD: FORFEIT! We have seen the contagion,"
AUDIENCE OF 2,000
Claps and amens ring out.
TALWELL
"yes, my brothers we have beheld the death of our people! Our life! Our kind!" More men "What is there to do? I hear you out there, my brothers, swollen with doubt and despair 'what is there to do? Am I lost? Are we all lost?' NAY!"
AUDIENCE
Multiple men stand up and whoop and holler in affirmation.
TALWELL
"Yea! As the prophet Nissena rose in fervor and fury against our former masters and the scaled of the north, I see among you men with a vision and devotion to secure the existence future of our people and a future for human children! Against the lies of government! Against the lies of Equitianism! Against the lies of Materielists! A nation for men of virtue and strength!"
AUDIENCE
Roar in approval.
TALWELL
"Settle down my brothers, settle down!"
AUDIENCE
Slowly lessen in volume but laugh and chuckle
TALWELL
"We must be more cunning than the elf and more prepared than the Golds. First, we must talk of our goals. We, the congregation and clergy of St. Regal's Church, establish clear tiers of the kinds. First among all is the pure human man, whose matter reigns supreme in matters of virtue, strength, creativity, brotherhood, mind, and devotion. Second, are all else. Now to our means..."
